Matt, Adam, and Casey had been friends for years but never came together to make music. After a frustrating summer playing sidemen on the Los Angeles club circuit (and at Casey’s behest), Adam and Matt returned to school and pooled their dorm room demos.

Playing as a two piece (both switching between guitar and drums – so cliche), they worked through the songs live and began writing collaboratively. Returning to LA, they brought in Casey to flesh out the sound. Home provided the band with a space to experiment. Treating each song individually, the band reinterpreted Adam and Matt’s original malarial folk into truly compelling music. Many DIY recording sessions later, they had enough material for their 2009 self-titled debut. When, eating a box of Trix, they found three green rings that miraculously fit together and immediately knew they had to get serious and get signed!

At this point, Flora & Fauna know they’re not reinventing the wheel,  a claim most bands aren’t willing to admit. They focus instead on craft, revisiting old places with ears from the end of a decade. The songs were written in New England winter and recorded in California sunshine. The lyrics are intensely personal but self-consciously detached. The music is dynamic, loud and eclectic, created through an intensely collaborative process, designed to find art in simple songs. Let them in your house and they’ll warm your hearts.
